Things I’m coveting and 1 challenge

Superficialness abounds today! Here’s a list of “wants” I’ve found— things I think are really handy or beautiful. Usually I try to maintain a capsule wardrobe because I don’t like a bunch of clutter in my closet and I don’t like waste. But I do think that a little indulgence can go a long way, so here are FOUR additions on my wish list:

  1. This Madewell skirt. I love mini-skirts— I think they are so flattering and they make me feel pretty. After watching “Mad Men” I discovered that I have an infatuation with fifty’s housewife inspired clothing especially buffalo check print. I actually love the 1900’s-1960’s, then bits of the 70’s. I have none of the 80’s and 90’s nostalgia that seems to be so popular. As much as I love the 20’s and 30’s, I feel those eras are not particularly flattering to one such as I. Androgyny was especially popular in the 20’s, and made a huge come back in the 1990’s. This is probably why I’m not a big fan of the 90’s— it’s not a good look for me and it doesn’t have any of the fine detail and craftsmanship that makes the 1920’s so appealing. Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 9.02.19 pm
  2. I have what may be a very weird love of reading about infectious disease. Medical history fascinates me. I came across this book a couple of times and really regret not grabbing a copy. So now it’s on my wish list, because who doesn’t love reading about the plagues? Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 9.12.24 pm

3. Until recently, I avoided lipsticks. However, about a year ago I discovered a lipstick that I really loved and it has snowballed from there. This one I really want to try. I have found that not only do I enjoy lipsticks, but I like darker more dramatic ones, so, on that front, this is perfect. Also, the name “Queen Medieval” for some reason reminds me of Eleanor of Aquitaine, and who doesn’t want to be associated with her? Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 9.24.19 pm

4. The first time I saw a blobfish, I was overcome with love for that ugly little creature. I tend to love things that other people think are ugly, and this one is no exception. So, of course, when I saw that I could have my very own blobfish I was so excited about it. This guy wants to come live with me. It’s on sale, but $45 still seems a bit steep for a stuffed animal, especially since I’m supposed to be a grown woman. Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 9.28.29 pm

Finally, the challenge! I stumbled upon this Squat Challenge from Fitness magazine  while perusing the internet and have convinced my husband to join in. The conversation went something like this:

Me: Hey, would you like to do something with me?

Him: Sure.

Me: It’s a squat challenge.

Him: Oh, no I don’t want to do that.

Thankfully he has agreed to do it, must because I told him he has to or else! If my tuckus becomes photogenic I will let you know.
